The massively private city of Waterval in Johannesburg is described as a new highly connected economic hub that looks to keep shifting the financial sector of Johannesburg northwards towards Pretoria. It has a strategic location along the N1 freeway that connects it to the business areas of Pretoria and the CBD; it is in proximity to Sandton’s residential suburbs, adjacent to the airport and train stations. This project, segregating a community from its surroundings, But what happens when this wealthy urban project has not considered the connection with its townships, where most of its workers reside? The minibus taxis, an innate South African private proposal and the main system of South African transportation, plays an important role in closing that gap. This has also brought into the urban fabric of the city spots of informality. Points of interest are created where the Taxi Ranks -stations- are located and little informal businesses like food stands or fruit sellers find the way to supply their clientele.
