Buffer Zone

Waterval, Johannesburg


Spatial segregation in Waterval City area can be found in the denominated “buffer zones”. In this case, the gated community has a 200m - wide walled area that separates it from the N1 Freeway. This zone, not only creates a void without use but contributes to the isolation of the city. Also, within the estates, green areas separate each block of houses from the others not allowing spontaneous interaction.
