Project Global: Ground

This exploration of our current day metropolitan condition as a system of systems deals with the crust of the Earth as a primary carrying capacitor of human activities, from the extraction of resources deep within the ground, to agricultural operations that barely scratch the surface.

Shack Catalog

Cashbuild Limited

This is an example for a speculative upcoming catalog of backyard shacks, through Cashbuild company. While the term “shack” is considered cheap and insufficient but still famously framing the South African housing morphology, the company can rebrand the very basic familiar notion as the acceptable new norm.
Cashbuild Limited has been the preferred retailer and integrated supplier of building materials, associated products and services, through chosen brands, across all market segments in selected countries, mainly South Africa. Cashbuild has been involved in township communities, from employment opportunities to material accessibility and affordability. Their position and contract with NedBank allows a greater reach and living possibilities for residents and therefore, could potentially expand their business and to a new set of contracts with the municipalities. This will enable them to provide a relief to the problems of backyarding by simplifying bureaucratic procedures and processes.
