Golf Courses 2
Biodiversity Catalogue
The development of golf courses in Johannesburg has influenced and modified the biodiversity in the area. However, planned golf courses set in a large, homogeneous agricultural landscape could be retreats for animals and plants, introducing no-local species of plants and trees to replicate idealized visions of the cityscape, could produce negative effects on some of the ecological processes that sustain the vegetation units, such as fire, pollination, and migration of animal species. Fragmentation of natural areas is probably of most significant concern from a biodiversity perspective.
