Project Global: Ground

This exploration of our current day metropolitan condition as a system of systems deals with the crust of the Earth as a primary carrying capacitor of human activities, from the extraction of resources deep within the ground, to agricultural operations that barely scratch the surface.

Regulated Infrastructure

Alexandra

One of the last developing phases of Alexandra was the extension seven, on the north west part of the old Alexandra. The goal was to provide an organised neighborhood for the relocation of the people in order to solve the living conditions and the backyarding problems. Hence a socio-economic policy that involved new better conditions was established by the government.
This was the Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) which tried to advance the construction and servicing systems with designed neighborhoods. Focusing in one few building plots it is visible that there is a logic and a systematic orthogonal development in both the buildings and the services. However once more the phenomena appeared again and temporary contractions were added on the back or the sides of the main houses. Moreover, looking again between the years of 2013 and 2022 there is a transformation in the area with additional floors to the single leveled dwellings.
