Beyond the Surface

Alrode, Johannesburg

The pre-existent electrical towers are used as landmarks that give character and utility to the park. They serve as solid structures that become viewpoint towers and an artwork of neon lights for the community. While this happens on the surface of the ground, several connections and water treatment processes occur underneath. Technical infrastructures, like tanks and sand filtration boxes, come out of the ground to establish a relationship with the people on the surface and remind them their connection with what they cannot see.
